Coffee Alternative

Dandy Blend
Buy on Amazon

At some point of your program, caffeine will be eliminated. This is the caffeine-free coffee alternative we have used for years! No icky ingredients, just a dandelion base.

It’s also Detox-Friendly, as dandelion is sweetener-free, anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidative and dandelion is a naturally liver-detoxing ally. We order this on Amazon.

Of course, this is not the only coffee alternative. You can also consider Golden Milk, RASA Cacao, herbal tea (not black or green), or warm water with lemon.

Healthy Fat to Add to Your “Coffee”

A healthy, delicious fat to melt into your "coffee!" We love Cacao Butter Wafers or “buttons” because of their naturally creamy flavor. You can find these at Sprouts, Whole Foods or Amazon.

MCT oil is also suggested for several shake recipes during the Detox portion of your program. You can find this at Whole Foods, Sprouts or Amazon.

“Coffee” Creamer

Anima Mundi Apothecary
Buy on Amazon

When dairy is eliminated, you may miss creamer in your “coffee!” We’ve got you covered. Anima Mundi offers delicious vegan, sugar-free creamers. If coconut creamer doesn’t float your boat, they also offer a Mushroom Mocha flavored version that is also Detox friendly. Of course, you may be able to find close alternatives at your local Sprouts or Whole Foods.

Collagen Peptides

Collagen peptides are an excellent source of clean, high-quality protein during your detox phase. Unlike many protein powders that contain additives, sweeteners, or allergens, collagen peptides are pure, unflavored, and easily digestible, making them ideal for supporting your body's natural detoxification process. They are free of common irritants that could interfere with your program, and they help maintain muscle mass, promote healthy skin, and support joint health while keeping your body aligned with your detox goals.

Easy Ways to Incorporate Collagen Peptides:

  1. Smoothie Boost: Blend a scoop of collagen peptides with your favorite detox-approved ingredients— think leafy greens, unsweetened coconut milk, and frozen beets (or any frozen vegetables)— for a nourishing smoothie.

  2. Bone Broth Enrichment: Stir collagen peptides into a warm cup of bone broth for an extra protein boost while enhancing gut health and hydration.

  3. Morning “Coffee”: Add collagen peptides to your detox-friendly coffee alternative or herbal tea for a creamy, protein-packed start to your day.

  4. Water or Herbal Tea: Mix into plain water or herbal tea for a simple and convenient way to meet your protein needs without extra effort.

Bone Broth

If you’re ever feeling low on energy throughout your program and beyond, you can use bone broth as a protein pick-me-up throughout the day or even as a substitute for your “warm morning beverage.”

Bone broth can be difficult and messy to make. If making it from scratch brings you joy, be our guest! But for our Members on the go, we recommend Brodo’s Bone Broth pouches. There are several pre-made bone broths on the market that you can find at your local health food stores, but what we love about these single-serve pouches is that they are no fuss, purely organic, concentrate and preservative-free— and delicious.

The variety packs offer wonderful palate alternatives, just keep an eye on the ingredients for your individual protocols. (For example: Spicy Nonna will not be ok when you have to avoid nightshades, and “Coconut, Curry & Lime” will not be suitable for the Auto-Immune Protocol).

The Importance of Staying Hydrated During Your Program

We recommend drinking at least half of your body weight in ounces of water daily during your program and beyond. Proper hydration is key to supporting your body's natural detoxification processes, maintaining energy levels, and overall wellness.

If this feels like a significant leap, don't worry— you can build up to this goal gradually. Start by adding an extra glass or bottle of water between meals. (Remember, drinking water during meals can disrupt and dilute your body’s natural digestive enzymes, which are essential for breaking down food. If you feel the need to sip water with meals, try slowing down and taking smaller bites to make eating more comfortable).

Creative Ways to Incorporate More Water

  • Flavor Your Water Naturally: Adding a splash of lemon, cucumber slices, or fresh mint can make drinking water more enjoyable. Herbal teas also count toward your daily water intake— just be sure to choose caffeine-free options during your detox.

  • Electrolytes Without the Junk: Your "Min Essentials" supplement ensures your body’s mineral needs are replenished. If you enjoy flavored electrolytes, choose clean products free from added sugars, artificial sweeteners, or ingredients that may interfere with detoxification. We recommend Moon Juice Mini Dew Naked Electrolytes during the course of your detox phase. Moon Juice also offers refreshing Watermelon and Pomelo flavors that can be enjoyed as healthy alternatives after your detox phase. These can be ordered online or found at Sprouts.

  • Liquid Chlorophyll: Add a few drops of liquid chlorophyll to your water for a gentle flavor boost that also supports detoxification. Peppermint-flavored liquid chlorophyll is a refreshing option and can be found at Sprouts or Whole Foods.

  • Natural Electrolyte Sources: Organic unsweetened coconut water, or a pinch of sea salt with a squeeze of lemon, are great ways to naturally enhance hydration without compromising your detox.

Additional Tips for Building a Water Habit

  • Carry a Reusable Bottle: Having water within reach makes it easier to sip throughout the day.

  • Set Reminders: Use phone alarms or apps to remind yourself to drink water regularly.

  • Make It a Ritual: Start your morning with a glass of water and lemon to jumpstart your hydration.

By taking small, consistent steps, you can develop a hydration habit that feels natural and enjoyable.

Alcohol

We strongly recommend that all of our practice members to stick to their program protocols and eliminate alcohol when it is suggested. But if you are going on a very special trip or you cannot safely eliminate it, we suggest a tier of “Good,” “Better,” “Best:”

  • Good: If wine is your drink of choice, opt for organic, sugar-free and sulfite-free. You can find some of these options in the organic section at Sprouts, Total Wine, Whole Foods, or check out the company Dry Farm Wines for delivery.

  • Better: Opt for clear liquor (vodka, gin, tequila, mezcal) on its own, with soda water or an unsweetened seltzer like Spindrift.

  • Best: Eliminate it altogether during the time it is outlined in your individual program.

When Eating Three Meals a Day Feels Like Too Much:

In today’s world, not feeling hungry in the morning has become a badge of honor, but it’s a sign your body is running on stress hormones, not fuel! Skipping breakfast or intermittent fasting (for women in particular) only makes it worse, as stress hormones continue to power your day, causing imbalances that affect everything from your digestion to your sleep.

Start small: A mug of bone broth within 30-60 minutes of waking will slowly restore your appetite. Build up to having 3 meals a day for at least 2-3 weeks before your Detox phase. With time, your leptin hormone will regulate and you’ll notice signs of reduced stress and improved overall health.
